The Skillion story
We stand for Smart and Exhilarating. This is something we put into each and every build of our Electric Bikes.
We design our bikes here in Sydney, and we use high-grade components from trusted manufacturers like Shimano, Tektro, Mozo and RST. This means our bikes are built Australia-tough and we know our bikes will perform just as well in the Bush, as they do on Sydney roads.
We take pride in how we service and support our customers, all around Australia, long after they first brought their Skillion.
We’re Skillion. We’re about Design, Performance and Technology.
How we came to be
The Founder’s last full-time job was a Qantas Airline pilot, before that a project manager of a $250m Qantas refit, and was overseas working for innovation companies like Nokia, Agilent and then consumer product companies including Breville and Aristocrat. As an electronics engineer there he was exposed to the best in design and technology from world leading companies.
An inspirational moment came about when he first saw a “Fat-tire” bike and decided these bikes solve so many problems for the rider, and they look really cool. Adding an electric motor was the key to overcome the additional drag and make the bike versatile. The Skillion 1 was born – an entry level bike, low cost and a hit with everyone that saw it. The fat-tires look cool and the motor just made the ride sooo sweet. Then the Skillion 2, front suspension, Pedal Assist, a thumb throttle and a mid-drive motor. Excellent in performance and rider comfort.
Now 3 years on we have a new line up of ebikes, check them out…
At Skillion we believe that the ebike experience doesn’t begin and end when riding.
As much fun as riding our bikes are, we know that owning a Skillion is much more, so we’re committed to developing digital and digitally connected products for Skillion ebikes.
Our Dashboard, means you can replace the regular display with a Smart Phone and control your Skillion from you pocket. Your can switch between “road” and “off-road” modes with your fingertips. This makes your Skillion two bikes, a street legal transporter and totally wild off-road performer that can get you anywhere.
Our Security module allows you remote tracking of your Skillion. If something disturbs your ride you will be notified on your Smart Phone. Then you can live stream a camera feed to check up on your Skillion and track it via GPS satellite to relocate your Skillion – ultimate peace of mind!
Skillion bikes are engineered to perform.
All Skillion bikes have powerful motors. The Skillion Max for example has up to 1000 Watts of power from the Bafang BBSHD.
When you need to climb hills our use the bike on soft surfaces the extra power means it is easy and fun.
This motor operates from 48 Volts, typically most bikes are 36 Volts in Australia, so you get more energy in the battery to go further and more hill climbing torque,
That’s not all, we spec all our bikes with hydraulic disc brakes so you can stop (on a dime), front suspension to help you with ride comfort and a whole host of features on each bike.
(1) Note Australian laws permit only a maximum power for ebike usage on roads or cycleways of 250 watts.
A Skillion bikes we pride our selves on our design skills.
Industrial design is a creative art and a science, combining form and function into a real product. The better this combination the more optimised the solution and the better the product.
Finite Element Analysis offers mechanical designers real data on the design before it is built. In aviation as in the the biking industry FEA means we can reduce costs and speed development times.
Massive range battery
This battery is the latest generation of ebike batteries that gives the Skillion Max over 60 km* of range, you will be sun burnt long before this battery runs low. Even then, it is easy to remove the battery from the bike to charge or swap and go, the integration of the battery into the frame is a leading design innovation and unique to Skillion in Australia.
This 48 Volt 11.9 AH (571WH) battery holds a ton of energy when fully charged, and energy equals range. By using the low pedal assist (PAS) levels and with moderate pedalling you can ride around for hours* on a single charge. Or you can wind up the PAS levels and with the full power of the 48 Volt system feel the Skillion Max unleash it full potential and really move along.
Skillion bikes batteries are expected to have the longest life in the electric bike industry and are expected to have at least 70% of there original tested capacity at the end of the warranty period. Lithium batteries require care and some maintenance to maximise life expectancy. To ensure the best life out of your battery; Only charge the battery above 0 degrees celsius (32 degrees F), Charge the battery every month.**
*range varies with rider and conditions. **warranty is void if battery is charged below 0 degrees celsius or above 50 degrees celsius (32 degrees F).
Here in Australia, we stand for energy and passion. This is something we put into each and every build of our Hardcore Electric Fat Bikes.
We design our bikes here in Sydney, and we use high-grade components from trusted manufacturers like Shimano, Zoom & TGS. This means our bikes are built Australia-tough and we know our bikes will perform just as well in the Bush, as they do on Sydney roads.
We hand-build all of our bikes in small batches, and we take pride in how we service and support our customers, all around Australia, long after they first brought their Skillion.

How the Skillion Max came to be
First there was the Skillion 1; this ebike was entry level, low cost and a hit with everyone that saw it. The fat-tires look cool and the motor just made the ride sooo sweet. But, we weren’t satisfied.
Then came the Skillion 2, front suspension, Pedal Assist, a thumb throttle and a mid-drive motor. Excellent in performance and rider comfort. But, we weren’t satisfied.
Now, just launched is the Skillion Max. Why Max? Mad Max, Max’d out or Maximum, take your pick… Aussies should have access to this piece of kit right now…the first bikes are just rolling off the production line right ready for us here in Australia.
All this is part of Skillion’s commitment to being the best so you have the best.
*programmed to 250W for Australian sales
** range depends on the rider and conditions
We got three HOT buying options to get you in the seat, whatever way you want:
4″ wide fat knobbly tires
Don’t let anyone tell you these bad-boys are anything but the best tires for a ebike. Forget the whining about “hard to pedal”, these tires kick-ass on grip, traction, control and comfort, and you decide if you want traction or range by how much pressure you put in the tires.
Fat-tires look cool, just ask any 4 year old boy. But, they aren’t just for show, they are awesome tires for any multi-purpose ebike. The tires are oversized typically 3.8 in (97 mm) or larger and rims 2.6 in (66 mm) or wider, designed for low ground pressure for riding on soft unstable terrain, such as snow, sand, bogs and mud. The Skillion bikes have frames with wider forks and stays to accommodate the wide rims.
The wide tires can be used with inflation pressures as low as 5 psi for a smooth ride over rough obstacles or 8–10 psi for smooth off-road rides and up to 18-25 psi for on-road use. The great thing is that you can decide if you want a smooth ride over terrain or a fast ride on the road.
They make sense on so many levels and give you the best grip on a wide range of surfaces.
The BBS-HD motor
Know anything about ebikes and you will know that the BBS-HD motor is the most powerful and torque ridden monster out there and being a mid-drive means you get your arse over the centre of gravity for a ride like no other. This motor is a monster, the 48 Volt Bafang BBS-HD can output a massive 1000 watts (programmed to 250W for Australian sales*) this motor has massive torque to climb any hill with ease.
Not only is the motor impressive but it is designed to excel in the bike frame. BBS-HD is located as a mid-drive motor. Don’t let anyone tell you hub-motors are better, they simply aren’t. The weight in the hubs puts far too much weight away from the centre of gravity and creates rolling momentum issues both accelerating and braking. But the major benefit of a mid-drive is that the gears are behind the motor, like a car the motor can spin up to full power even while tackling a massively steep hill. The Skillion 2 (USA Version) excels like no other, up hill and down!
*Local Australian laws allow bicycles with a maximum motor power of 250W under the European Standard EN 15194.
